About the KM Cluster® and
Colabria Action/Research Networks

The KM and Colabria Clusters®
are open, federated action/research networks. The scope is global. The
focus is local. Community event gatherings are conducted and sponsored on a regional
basis. The modality is authentic conversation. They are held quarterly and sustain community, rhythm & continuity. All are
welcome.
Network description.
"Clusters are fluid, organic, rhythmic collaboration and open action/research networks.
They are ad hoc,
spontaneous and proximate conversation. Clusters are 100% led by
participants. Colonizing themes in a day-long conversation is your only
modality. A Cluster is not a conference. It is not a seminar,
training, forum or trade event. It is not a professional organization,
framework vendor or consultancy. There are no boards, committees,
advisors or certifications. We do not compete and are vendor agnostic.
Regional sponsors vary from quarter to quarter. Governance originates
from the network only. Above all,
Clusters have the highest standards for venues, speakers, meals,
participants and thought leadership. The modest participant sponsorship
nourishes the network and provides
sustainability, independence, rhythm and continuity."
The KM Cluster was founded in the San Francisco Bay Area and
Silicon Valley in 1998. Focus is on practice excellence and leadership.
Popular themes are enterprise collaboration, value networks,
prediction markets, organizational learning, communities of
practice, social networks, intellectual capital,
complexity science, storytelling and narrative, content management,
measurement & metrics, new media, innovation & invention
and analytics & taxonomies.
Clusters enable sponsors to conduct popular action/research events worldwide.
Clusters are devoted to creating a
common understanding, shared vision and future focused action for advanced
and emerging techniques for individuals, business, education and government.
The strategy driving your community and network events is future-focused triangulation
between academia, thought leaders and practitioners. The KM Cluster pursues an
action-research model.
The network operates at the intersection of practice, theory and tools.
Outcomes are achieved through relationships, collaboration
and conversation.
Events are popular and low cost. All are welcome. Clusters receive support only
from participants.

Background
The notion of "clusters" or "clustering"
was first introduced by Michael Porter in his landmark book,
"The
Competitive Advantage of Nations."
In short, the book introduces Porter's "Diamond,"
a breakthrough in understanding the competitive importance of location and
collaboration in (global) competition.
Clusters are federated, collaborative groups of
interconnected firms, suppliers, customers, industries and institutions that
arise in particular locations. They are an essential way for companies to
understand local and global economies and their own competitive advantage.
Clustering greatly improves business productivity,
productivity growth (innovation) and it helps people and organizations
discover totally new business models.
By helping shape a local value network of KM practices,
people and processes, in your region with the KM Cluster can improve and enhance the
competitiveness of your participants, firms and collaborators.
