Since 1997 he has been in charge of a BBC department focussing on new technologies and the impact of low cost programme making tools in radio and television. As broadcasting moves from being an industry heavily dependant on expensive, complex technologies  to one with an increasingly low cost of entry his role as Head Of Knowledge Management is to ensure that the BBC adapts its practices and management style in ways which reflect the true nature of broadcasting as a knowledge based industry.
