Summer 2005 Special
Abstract, Purpose and Benefits In 1962 visionary Dr Douglas Engelbart wrote a paper "AUGMENTING HUMAN INTELLECT: A Conceptual Framework" that lead to many of the innovations in modern computing: hypertext, networked collaborative computing, multiple windows, videoconferencing, the integration of word processing and graphics, and his most famous invention, the mouse. However, Engelbart's main idea, to augment the collective IQ, has not been fully explored. We will present an overview of The Engelbart Hypothesis, present case studies of how Englebart's work is being applied, and ask participants to participate in exploring what long term and short term steps we can make to improve our individual and collective capabilities.
